Johnson Triples Q1 Fundraising

New fundraising gives first-time candidate undeniable momentum

COLUMBIA, SC – Sam Johnson’s campaign for Mayor of Columbia has more than tripled its campaign fundraising according to numbers released today demonstrating the campaign’s clear and growing momentum going into the third quarter.

“It’s humbling and exciting. You don’t see that kind of growth in just three months, particularly for a first time candidate, and this is just the beginning,” Johnson says. “It tells us that we’re on the right track. It tells us that people are tired of the same old tired slogans and promises. We’re ready for a new vision and real action and that’s what this campaign is all about.”

After raising $36,881 in the first quarter, Johnson raised $115,402.08 in the April through June period according to preliminary numbers released by the campaign. This growth combines with Johnson’s leadership on major issues facing Columbia’s families, grassroots organizing  to give his campaign undeniable momentum across the board.

This momentum, as well as his vision to address public health, improve public safety and expand justice reform and transparency, has helped him secure support from proven leaders like former SC State Representative and Obama Administration official Anton Gunn, former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Building Better Communities leaders Perry Bradley and MAJ (Ret) Melvin Whittenburg as well as Columbia City Councilmen Sam Davis and Ed McDowell.

In addition, Johnson is the only candidate to focus on Columbia’s gun violence crisis calling for the mandate the reporting of lost and stolen firearms and a focus on filling the city’s public safety vacancies.
